Supplemental Remedial Investigation Commences

Supplemental Remedial Investigation (SRI)

Supplemental Remedial Investigation (SRI) field work is being conducted at the former Williamsburg Works MGP site under a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) approved SRI Work Plan. The purpose of the work is to vertically delineate groundwater adjacent to the site, on Parcel 6.

The work consists of installation and development of nine monitoring wells on Parcel 6. The work commenced in June 2025. Information from the well monitoring will be used to develop a draft SRI Report, which National Grid will submit to NYSDEC.
A map of the site and parcels can be seen on the Site Description tab.
Ongoing Activities:

  • Conducting Parcel 6 SRI field work (summer 2025)
  • Finalization of the RI Report for Parcels 2, 3, and 4.
  • Development of the Remedial Alternatives Analysis Report for Parcels 2, 3, 4.

Upcoming Activities:

  • Parcel 6 SRI field work began in June 2025 and includes the installation of 9 soil borings that will be completed as groundwater monitoring wells. Community Air Monitoring is being conducted during all invasive activities. Following installation of groundwater monitoring wells, each well will be developed and then allowed to equilibrate for at least two weeks prior to the collection of groundwater samples.
